Application Process


To be considered for admission into the Academy for Merchant Navy Course applicants must meet and submit the following documents and information:

- An Application for Admission to the MBA Program, duly completed, signed and dated by the applicant. The application must clearly specify the program option to which the applicant wishes to be admitted;

- Ordinary Level High School Certificate with credits in at least five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Physics; obtained at one sitting; or

- Ordinary Level General Certificate of Education with credits in at least five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Physics; obtained at one sitting; or

- A recognised qualification deemed equivalent to (a) and (b) above by the Academy.

 

For Maritime Transport Course, the entry requirement is the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinaary Level, the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) or West African School Certificates with credits passes in at least four subjects obtained at one sitting, which must include English Language and Mathematics and any other three subjects from the following: Economics, Geography, Commerce, Statistics, Government, History, Home Economics, French and Additional/Modern Mathematics.

Age

 

 

Applicants for the Merchant Navy Course must be between 16 and 23 years of age at the time of enrolment whilst Maritime Transport applicants should be between 16 and 25.

Medical

Applicant must be able-bodies, medically fit and without any disabilities. Medical standards for admission into the Academy are as depicted in the Prospectus.

 

 

Marital Status

Applicant must be single and remain single until he/she completes his/her studies.

 

 


Clearance from any Criminal Offence

Applicant must not have been previously convicted of any criminal offence.

 

 

Additional Requirements

In addition to the Academic qualification and other general requirements, admission to courses will be based upon:

 

Success at the Entrance Examination.

Success at an Oral Interview following the Entrance Examination.

Undertaking

The candidates must undertake in writing to adhere strictly to the disciplinary “Cadets’ Standing Order” of the Academy and other Rules and Regulations as may be drawn up form time to time.

 

The cadet must produce an evidence of sponsorship. The sponsor must undertake, in writing, the full responsibility for payment of the training cost.

Refusal of Admission

 

 

The Academy reserves the right to refuse admission of a cadet without assigning any reason.
